Gerry Carroll MLA Says “There Can Be No Return To The Status Quo”

Gerry Carroll, PBP MLA for West Belfast, has called on parties not to return to the status quo, and for real change to be implemented before an executive is formed. He said:

“In the run up to the election, we were promised by the bigger parties that there would be no return to the status quo. The electorate voted on this basis, and will now expect this promise to be delivered upon.”

“People want to see real change. They want to see solutions to the housing crisis, an end to the assault on benefits and urgent action to reverse the ever deteriorating situation in our health service.”

“No executive can claim the mandate of the people unless there is significant movement on LGBT and women’s rights and on an Irish Language Act.”

“The families of the victims of state terror will be watching with a close eye as well. It is high time the obstructionist agenda that has protected state forces is brought to an end, and that justice is found for all victims of paramilitary and state violence. Anything less would be an abdication of the will of the electorate.”

“Under no circumstances should Arlene Foster be reinstated as First Minister, even temporarily. Given the campaign that Sinn Féin ran in this election, there is an onus on them to ensure that they do not facilitate her return.”
