Gerry Carroll Tells Brokenshire “He Must Accept Culpability In Talks Debacle”

Gerry Carroll tells Brokenshire “he must accept culpability in talks debacle”

A delegation from People Before Profit met today with the Secretary of State James Brokenshire. Speaking after the meeting, Gerry Carroll MLA said:

“It appears as though the talks at Stormont are going nowhere. This is no surprise. What concerns PBP, however, is the real issues impacting people’s lives. It is not acceptable that youth groups and other organisations are facing cuts in the absence of a budget. Today we impressed upon the Secretary of State that these people should not be used as a pawn in a political game.”

“If the minister has any sense, he should put immediate measures in place to ensure that no jobs or services are lost due to the failure of these talks. Youth groups should not be made to pay for the failures of politicians. It is simply not acceptable.”

“Brokenshire must accept culpability in the talks debacle. In particular, his obstructionist role in regard to investigations into state terror makes him a partisan player in the process. There will be no progress unless the British state stops blocking justice for victims.”

“And his failure to come out publicly and support the rights of the LGBT community, Irish language speakers and others has put him at odds with the views of the majority of people in the North.”

“The DUP cannot be allowed to hold the rest of us back. Brokenshire should stop facillitating their intransigence.”
