AN URGENT ELECTION APPEAL TO ALL PEOPLE BEFORE PROFIT MEMBERS AND SUPPORTERS

On June 7th there will be elections to local councils in the South and the European Parliament. These are really important for People Before Profit.

People Before Profit will be fielding three candidates for the European election – Bríd Smith TD for Dublin, Cian Prendeville for South and Brian O Boyle for Midlands-North-West.

We are also fielding nearly fifty candidates for local elections across the country.

These elections are crucial as they will be the first episode in a cycle culminating in a General Election in early 2025.  At stake is whether or not Ireland will continue to be run by Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael who have dominated Irish politics for nearly 100 years.

We want to evict as many Fianna Fáilers and Fine Gaelers as we can from the councils and the EU parliament. They have created the worst-ever housing crisis.  A whole generation has been locked out of affordable housing and are caught in a rent hell or live in overcrowded conditions with their parents.

The genocide in Palestine has exposed the hypocrisy and double-speak of our political elite. They try to appease popular anger but ensure that they do not upset the US or EU leaders. This is why they ‘show concern’ but are unwilling to expel the Israeli ambassador or stop US troops using Shannon.

The establishment parties refuse to take the radical steps needed to cut our emissions and stop our planet burning.

With People Before Profit, you get a guarantee: we will never enter coalition with Fianna Fáil or Fine Gael.

Unfortunately, Sinn Féin will issue no such guarantee. They have already begun slipping to the centre in preparation for a future coalition with the right and in response to the growth of the far right. People Before Profit will refuse to do business with the political establishment and will use our elected positions to help build a movement that can bring radical change.

This is all the more crucial as far-right and fascist forces have already started spreading hate. They want to turn anger on migrants rather than those at the top. People Before Profit has operated as a principled counterweight, vehemently opposing all forms of racism and hatred against the LGBTQ+ community.

This is why we are appealing to all members to make the maximum effort to help our campaigns. We have less than 7 weeks to the election and we need your help to put real campaigners into our councils and the European Parliament.

There is lots of work to be done so with every small contribution you can make a real difference.

We understand that people have busy lives and can drop out of activity for periods of time. But we are asking all our members and supporters to consider giving a dig out for the next seven weeks:

  • For the next two weeks come out leafletting or canvassing at least once a week
  • From the beginning  of May consider coming out more than once
  • We need posters to go up on May 7th   and 8th.  If you have a car you can make a real difference with this.
  • Take leaflets and give them out in your area
  • Support our candidates on social media
  • Donate money to the campaign. Please donate here.

If you are not currently involved please get in touch today. You can leave your details here and we will be in touch.
