Protest this Saturday 27th June, 2pm

at the main entrance to the hospital in Crumlin

Despite claims by government that no further ward and theatre closures will happen this summer, a motion to guarantee the €9.6 million needed to keep the hospital open was defeated in the Dail this week. There are no guarantees that the planned cuts will not be implemented later in the year.

The government has called a second Lisbon Treaty referendum for October. This referendum will cost millions, millions that could be used to save the Children's Hospital. The Irish people have already said NO to LISBON, to call a second referendum for a treaty that is the same as the one we already voted on, is to deny us our democratic right to say NO. This government does not listen to the people!

Carers and their loved ones who receive roll-over respite care in Cherryorchard Hospital have been informed by the HSE that the newly refurbished Beech Unit at Cherryorchard Hospital is to close indefinitely. The management at the hospital have saidthat the closure of the Beech Unit is due to staff shortages for the Summer months. However, they could not give any guarantees as to when it will reopen.

The carers and their families with the support of People Before Profit are having a Protest on Friday 3rd July @ 4pm. We are asking for you support at help save the vital Respite Care services in this area.

Protest starts from Church of Assumption (at Kylemore roundabout, Ballyfermot) and will travel to Cherryorchard Hospital

Thursday, July 9, 2009
Start: 12:00 pm
End: 1:00 pm

During the recent protest at Cherryochard Hospital , senior management  revealed that  they couldn’t hire the staff needed to cover the annual and maternity leave because of the HSE's  embargo on the hiring of staff. Nurses who are taking annual leave and maternity leave are not being replaced. The HSE embargo on recruitment is once again seriously hurting patients receiving respite care and their families.
Cherry-orchard management have told Carers that all roll-over patients would receive respite care in private nursing homes instead and the Beech Unit would close.

We need to take this campaign to the HSE and force them into changing their position regarding staffing levels at Cherryorchard Hosptial. We are calling on everyone to meet outside the HSE Headquarters ( the Old Steeven’s Hospital opposite Heuston Station) on Thursday 6th July 2009 @12.00.
