On 26 January 2009 the Minister for Transport Noel Dempsey published a report he commissioned on Dublin Bus by Deloitte. He portrayed Dublin Bus as inefficient because we do not simplify the routes. When this was tried in the past the public objected and lobbied their local TDs, including Government ministers who ordered Dublin Bus to desist from doing so. The public do not want this type of simplified network. The elderly and disabled do not want to walk longer distances to a bus stop. They do not want to take two buses instead of one. Here are some facts about your bus service from this report: 1. The cost base of Dublin Bus is generally as efficient as comparable companies. The Minister states that the bus users deserve a better bus service. If that is the case, how does he explain that Government funding for Dublin Bus is low when compared to comparable operations in other European countries? The Dublin Bus subvention is 29 per cent of total revenue. The Minister describes this figure as ‘record funding’. Here is the subsidy in some European cities Lyon 79 per cent This leaflet was produced by Martin O’Sullivan, who is a candidate for the People Before Profit Alliance for the Artane – White hall constituency.
