People Before Profit Holiday Newsletter Everyone will take a break from politics over the next ten days. We had a few weeks of intensive political activity and debate. The government pushed through the budget, the IMF deal and have delayed the elections, which are now most likely to take place on March 11th but it could come earlier or be pushed back till later again. In the New Year we want to get organised early for the elections and for further attacks on our living standards. Most people, particularly those hit in the budget, will really feel the pinch in January and February. People Before Profit Alliance is gearing up. We want to run candidates in as many constituencies as possible. So far we have agreed to run in the following areas
There will also be meetings in early January to consider candidates in Cork South Central, Waterford and Clare There are real opportunities opening up on the political landscape for an alternative in the next elections. We want to see a massive success for all candidates who are part of the United Left Alliance across the country. We are part of a radical alternative for people that will pose a genuine choice for the first time in Irish politics and we have to grab this chance with both hands. And both locally and nationally we have to continue to build resistance and give people hope, instead of the cynicism and despair that is being pushed on us by the political elite. The United Left Alliance will be holding major rallies in towns and cities across the country from January onwards. Through this newsletter we will keep you informed of where and when there are meetings and activities in your area. For now, enjoy the festive season, get a good rest, re-charge the batteries and we look forward to a New Year of change and challenge in this country. Please keep in touch and if you want to get organised in your area, we can provide speakers, information and put you in contact with others. Best of luck and Happy Christmas Councillor Brid Smith (on behalf of the People Before Profit Alliance) |
